Two things in life are said to be certain; death and taxes. When it comes to taxes and dentistry, the most common question is this: are dental expense considered “Medical Expenses” when filing Income taxes? In Canada, most dental expenses can be categorized as ‘Medical Expense Deductions’ when filing your income taxes. This includes dentures, implants, fillings and so on. The only exception is purely cosmetic dental work, such as teeth whitening. While you don’t have to submit those receipts in your tax return, be sure to save your receipt. You may need to produce them to the Canada Revenue Agency to back up your claim.
