Pinhole Surgical Technique PST™ in Barrie and Orillia, ON

The Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST™) is a new treatment for receding gums in Barrie and Orillia, Ontario that is now being offered by Dr. Adam Tan. This is a minimally invasive treatment that involves only one tiny incision and no sutures. PST™ is a great solution for patients who have experienced gum recession as a result of gum disease or other functional issues.

What is PST™?

PST™ is an innovative new solution for the advanced treatment of gum recession. Whether gum recession has occurred as a result of gum disease, bruxism, or any other cause, PST™ is a viable treatment. Instead of taking a tissue sample and grafting it onto the gum line, a single incision the size of a pinhole is made in the tissue. A series of specialized instruments are then inserted through the incision and used to gently loosen the tissue. The gums can then be stretched over the exposed area of the root. Finally, Dr. Tan will stabilize the tissue with special collagen strips that will promote healing and hold the tissue in its new position.

What are the advantages?

PST™ is considered minimally invasive by both patients and doctors alike. There is no need to cut out a tissue sample from the patient and only one tiny incision is made. Not only does this mean minimal pain during the procedure, but there is very little soreness and discomfort after the procedure as well. There is usually no need for prescription pain medication. In most cases, over the counter analgesics is all that is necessary. Finally, there is no issue with tissue matching. Since the tissue is being stretched and borrowed from within the area, there is no risk of it being cosmetically different.

Patients suffering from functional issues or gum disease that have resulted in gum recession may be candidates for PST™. Contact Dr. Tan for more information on treating receding gums in Barrie and Orillia, Ontario today!
